Jerry,
While your facts seem to be correct, the mentality behind them is not. Who wants to work for free? If the pharm., Ortho., etc companies do not get to make a profit, why be in business? The companies have a huge demand to produce better and better product, at the cost of billions in research dollars, why would they put in this effort and turn around and give product away? Publically owned companies have to satisfy their investors, they have to make a profit.

So perhaps you think that healthcare is a right? Currently, as the laws are written, it is not. Those that wish to male I a right, change the laws, right an amendment, do something but don't artificially tax it into law. That leads to the next point. This country has turned into a gimme state. You only deserve what you provide for youself. If you cannot afford it, you shouldn't get it. With success comes rewards, ifyou choose to succeed, you can choose to pay for health coverage. If your job doesn't provide it, find one that does. If you don't have the education for that job, get it. Don't relie on my hard work and sweat for you can work part time and have full coverage. You even said it, Jerry, that on many peoples budget, coverage comes last. That is a choice that people have made. Let them choose their own path. If you think a car payment is more important, fine, but don't complain when you get sick and dot want to pay the 80 doctor visit because you don't have coverage. The answer to the problem is to allow companies to create plans that people want. Stop the govt from mandating that everything under the sun has to be covered in every plan and let me choose exactly what I want to pay for. Let companies compete across state lines, let small companies pool together to get discounts. Lastly, why don't we get the govt to quit taking half my pay check and let me put MY money where it needs to go.

I wont demonize our president, Pelosi, Frank, or any of their ilk. Just watch the video, and think about what FREE ENTERPRISE has done to move us forward, and what will happen without it.

Half a million have already seen the John Stossel investigative TV report below. lets make it everyone.

The PROBLEM with Free Enterprise Health Care, a sometimes wonderful thing, is that it works only for those who can afford to pay for it. The MOTIVATION for free enterpise health care is profit. We've been fortunate that any innovation at all comes from it AFTER the Chem companies and providers have settled into a comfy, profitable position. As a paradox, the profit motive limits further investment, as the funds for research must come from profit.

All Govt "health care" wants to do is to find a means to cover those who can't otherwise get coverage or afford to pay for it. If the Republicans truly WANTED to do something good for the country, they'd develop a plan that would be accepted by both sides, but of course, as they represent the existing health care industry (big chem cos, insurance cos, etc), they won't lift a finger to change the status quo; they just complain about the Democrats' efforts.

I'm presently the oldest member of my family...EVER, and I'm only 57.

The reason? None of my family line ever had health care. Everyone that went before me died from the LACK of health care. Only myself, at varying times, since I did not follow the tradition of working in construction or jobs where employers didn't offer health care, have lived this long.

The AVERAGE income earner must struggle to pay for health care. It is only the upper middle class and above that can afford the premiums. The first priority is housing, a HUGE expense, the food, and then, after the car payments and clothes, comes education and then health care. There simply is not enough money in the average family income to cover everything. THIS is what a domestic-thinking Congress should address... Instead, everything that affects people on a daily basis gets pushed aside. If we have money to fund wars, we should have money to save lives.

Congress should stop arguing about health care and do something about it. If Congress had to operate like a business, it would find an acceptable, workable solution to the problem NOW.
