We use a T56 six speed and a CTS diff, although you have the option of ford 8.8. I just went down and measured the travel at the top of the knob, stock vs T56. From top of console to top of Voodoo knob is 4" on both cars, but I was really surprised to find the GM pattern is tighter. At top of knob, full travel right to left in neutral is 2.5" on the stocker, 1.25" on the GM. Front to back (third to fourth) is 3" stock, 2.25" gm. I had an aftermarket shifter in Elvis that I removed.from Elvis, the stock feels great. I would say Geoff's car with stock t56 shifter is as good as any Miata stock trans and better than the gates in the stock six speed by far. 2100 rpm at 80mph in sixth ;-)
