Area of country is Michigan, so the season is over already.

It's a very elaborate 'sale', involving Caseys heavily modified car, this car and a 3rd car and a 3rd individual.. don't ask. ;)  But it is going to take place int he next few weeks if it all works out, so waiting isn't really an option (which is a non-issue since all cars involved are Miata and they will all go up and down in value about the same based on season)

Subject: Re: NPC - Value of 96 NA

Depends on area of the country, but considering its off season, and the modifications are of little value  to resale value, it is worth less to someone else than the owner with some attachment to it.

The history of the car would make it a higher risk than an original stock configuration. To me, an engine and tranny replacement would be a negative indicating a hard life and unknown issues in the future. Racers may not care about the swap, but the open diff is a detriment and would reduce the value to them.

Mismatched body panels and bad paint would turn off most non-miata owners and reduce value dramatically.

If you find the right buyer that is willing to settle for a less than pristine car, you may get $3500 for it. But many first time miata buyers would be smart to shy away from a modded car. Too many unknowns.

Better to sell it in the spring. Could be worth an extra $500-1000 if he waits.

Buddy has a car that he's modified in very hodgepodge fashion.. can you guys give me a ballpark of what you think it's worth?  I need some honest opinions to beat him with because he lives in the alternate reality where mods return 95% investment and not out here with us where they maybe return 40% if the economy is good.. :)

96 Montego base model, open diffy 5 speed
Body 7/10.. Texas car but clear coat peeling on trunk, mismatched left fender (montego but has rockgaurd while rest of car does not), door dings, etc.  Typcial wear for a car that age.  Top good.
90k on body, but motor and tranny were swaped from something else
Rollbar (track legal)
FM frame rails
RB Header (but stock exhaust)
KYB 8 ways and GC coilovers
Fidanza FW and Spec clutch but bone stock engine, no power mods
Leaks oil.. assume valve cover or CAS
Otherwise runs decent, no major mechanical issues.

So, what is that worth on the open market right now?  I'm guessing sub 3500, but curious what you guys think.

Thanks!
