As I recall, it was considered a sporty coupe, somewhat akin to the old
"Club Coupe's" but considerably larger than a Triumph Herald, and a lot
better looking. I may be mistaken, because it was a while ago, but wasn't
that
a rear drive car?

The later FWD 626 models of the early 1990's were rather nice, but the
late 1990's models would be a much better choice, both for utility and parts
availability.

It may be a perfectly acceptable beater car. You could possibly replace
the engine and/or trans (when necessary) with that of a later Mazda. I
wouldn't think of it as a good investment, however.

I have limited knowledge on this car (1988 MAzda 626) other then its been
well maintained and has under 200,000 km on it. My initial concerns are
around parts availability, and what others know about it. Its a steal of a
price at $500, but the age is a concern for me.
