I monitor a group e-mail program for Enfocus who make PitStop, a PDF checking and correcting plugin for Acrobat. It is a printing industry standard. On that list today, there has been a discussion about the technology being used for that group. I thought some of you might find this post interesting as it could be related to our miatapower list or other forums you watch:

Is anyone else familiar with the stackoverflow.com version of a forum?

It's a programmer Q&A site set up the way all forums should be from now on. Questions and answers can be voted up or down, resulting in relevant content (highly rated questions) and proven answers (highly rated answers) being at the top of a topic listing, rather than buried 14 pages in where it takes 40 minutes to find.

Although stackoverflow itself is a programming site, the software behind it is available for building other Q&A sites at stackexchange.com. Go to the directory page to see the wide variety of sites built using this software.

I for one would love to be able to search for content and find the answer to the question as easily as this. The easier it is to find content, the more the site will be used, the more good content there is available - it's a win-win-win.

Thanks,
Jim
