Powerlist, My stepson is 16YO and will soon be getting his drivers license and will need a car. Instead of buying something for him, I have a complete 97 Miata with a dead engine that I'm going to put him into. There is a known good engine for sale local from a '99 10AE and a local junkyard has a 95 Miata engine. My dilemma is which engine to get? Asking price for both engines is the same. So that's a non issue. Actually the 99 with be cheaper as it a private sale so no sales tax. I know the '95 is plug and play, but what about the '99? The car will be bone stock when he gets it. If he wants to do anything to it, it'll be sometime down the road. Right now I'm just trying to get it running. Another data point is that I'll need to put a header onto it. Will a 99 header connect to the 97 cat? I was thinking a stock one from FM salvage, or maybe a cheap one off of fleabay, Any help will be greatly appreciated.
