I need to pull the steering column (shaft) out of the power steering rack on my 90 Miata. I have loosened two bolts by the spline where the column attaches to the rack. I've also removed the steering wheel and dropped the column down by removing the bolts from the supports above the crash plate. I've sprayed some PBBlaster on the spline where it mates with the rack. I've yanked on it from inside the car about as hard as I can but it will not come loose. I'm probably missing something so I thought I would ask here. I do see that there is another spline inside the car that I can loosen but I haven't messed with that yet. Anyone have a tip for me on how to remove this?
FWIW, I am trying to fix a problem with the steering where the steering wheel will turn 1.6 turns to the left but only 0.8 turns to the right (meaning I cannot turn sharply to the right but can to the left). Other than that the car drives straight as can be when the steering wheel is straight.
