Thanks John. These guys came prepared. I used to race this car and it has a roll bar, the stock side latches don't work with a roll bar, so I had the top bolted down with a pair of brackets inside, like the Spec Miata racers do. The thieves must have brought a wrench to undo those plates (it's a pig of a job as access is limited, so they were very determined). They got access to the car by breaking the quarter light window and opening the door. Fortunately they didn't trash anything else. The car was just resprayed 2 months ago, so looks perfect, so I'm thankful they didn't do a number on the paintwork on the deck as they slid it off.
Bill, regarding insurance, I let the comprehensive drop as the car is so old now, so I'm pretty sure I'm out of luck. I'll talk to them on Wed just in case. At this point I'm more angry that someone was messing with my stuff in the middle of the night right outside my house than the fact I lost a really nice, freshly painted top.
