I read http://www.apple.com/imovie/macos9/, which apparently Paul did
not. It says (in effect) that OS 9 users should get iMovie 2, and
then up date to ver. 2.1.1. http://www.apple.com/imovie/ says
"iMovie 2 is included on every new iMac, iBook, PowerBook and Power
Mac G4. And now, iMovie 2 is included with Mac OS X v10.1."

What I should have asked MichiMac : Is there a difference between
iMovie 2.1.1 that comes with the new models running OS X and the the
iMovie 2.1.1 that exists when iMovie 2 is updated to iMovie 2.1.1.
Apple does not tell if there are two versions of iMovie 2.1.1, one of
which being incompatible with OS 9.1.

Yes, Paul, I do not expect software for OS X to be backwards
compatible with OS 9.1. But I have no way of knowing that Apple
might supply two programs with identical names and version numbers
which possibly are different.

The CD I purchased was identified as "iMovie 2". Only when I opened
it did I see the reference to OS X. I do not think the problem is my
stupidity, but rather the confusing and incomplete information
supplied by Apple. I had hoped that someone on MichiMac might offer
a helpful answer; but, alas.

        Dave
