here's my story and im sticking to it.
iv had Macs for 10 years iv only fooled around with wintell box's here and
there. well in early December I sold my G3 minitower and was planning on
taking the money and buy a new Mac well that didn't happen as planed. the
wife has been bugging me to get a pc because she said she liked them better
so having heard that Microsoft did a good job with xp I thought ok ill give
this a whirl and at least ill learn the other platform. I went to the local
pc store here in town and bought a board with a 950 MHz chip thinking wow!
this baby going to fly compared to my 500 MHz g3. ok so I put the whole
thing together for 500 bucks. got a thousand for the g3 so im 500 ahead.
cant believe Microsoft is asking 200 bucks for xp I got a oem version for
130.00. so any ways I put the thing together I insert the xp disc and it
ask's if I would like to format the disk fat 32 I think was the choice I
click yes and 45 min later win xp is ready to install. in the mean time im
thinking to my self this just doesn't seem right but im thinking now widows
should install pretty quick ok so the installer ask says its checking the
system for compatibility this takes about 10 minutes and then in the side
window it tells me the install is going to take 52 minutes by now im shaking
my head and thinking what have I gotten my self into. you have to understand
it only took me about 45 minutes to put all the hardware together. the
reason im telling you all this is because it has never taken me this long to
format and install a Mac os. ok so the install finishes and the pc restarts
I get this pretty splash screen with the xp logo that looks like its in a 16
bit color mode. by the way I have a 64 meg gforce graphics card installed.
ok so here comes xp and im getting excited thinking this is going to be a
great looking os. well its ok very sluggish and slow, kind of looks like
they tried to copy Mac os x a little I guess the x is for ten and the p is
for plagiarized, any way I go and set up email and the internet. outlook
sucks on the pc compared to the Mac I would have thought that the pc version
would be better NOT!!! and as for i.e. I have to say the same thing IE
really sucks compared to when I had it on the Mac and thought it was the
best thing Microsoft ever made. once again I would have thought the pc
version would have been ten times better.so we have been using this computer
for the last month and a half and the other day the wife mentioned something
about how I cant wait to get a Mac again and to be honest I was just
planning on sticking with this for a while and told her so. well after
complaining about how she hated the Mac so platform and wanted windows for
the last couple of years she confessed that she missed the Mac and that it
was easier for her to work with. aahhhhhhh here I was making a sacrifice and
it turned around in my favor. so what prompted me to write this long story
got a email from club Mac and seen the new imac WOW!!! apple did it again
what a great looking machine and the new dual 1 GHz Macs wooohooo so in may
ill be able to buy a brand new Mac. iv never had a new Mac could never
afford one till now so by may I should be able to get a brand new Mac. and
ill let the kids have this pc to play with. hmmmm so by may prices will drop
more and my be ill be able to get a 800 MHz G4 that will blow this 950 MHz
pc out of the water. thanks for letting me dump.
