You do not need to install any software... Comcast took over here, in westland, in the end of december. As part of their "transition packet" I received their cd, accompanied with instructions to install it or risk an interuption in service. (The cd arrived broken into a dozen pieces)
The day after the changeover, I checked my router (dlink di-704) and saw that it had obtained a new ip address. The current setup is still dhcp as was the old one; the only change is that of the nameservers. The mediaone nameserver addresses were 24.131.1.8 & 24.131.1.9, the new ones are 68.42.244.5 & 68.42.244.6. The "old" ones still work. So if you do nothing, chances are it will still work.
