Hello folks, I've been catching up on what is going on in the
microhydro world and this site is fantastic! It is refreshing to see
all the help, good advice and ideas being shared. My project is
restoring a dam that is on our family farm. It has 6 feet of head and
2000 gallons per minute durring the low periods. Long ago it had a
reciprocating saw mill and the beams in our 200 year old home show
the vertical saw lines.... I would like to get the dam dredged first
(has anybody delt with this task?) and then use the dam for a useful
power source. It would be nice to use the reservoir and push more
power than its regular flow. I don't want to get too greedy and make
a system that depends on that but rather a system that can also take
on more flow. I posted a folder of pics in the file section and you
can see what i started 20+ years ago that I'm just now getting around
to getting something going... I could replace the penstock with a
larger pipe to get that extra power I'm after. My goal is to generate
2kw at minimum flow and open her up when more is needed. My home is
1200' away so AC is probably a certainty. It would be nice to also
tap into the power and pump water up to a storage tank for a dairy
herd. This may help in the "red tape removal department". I'm not
finacially prepared to buy a new system. A fire destroyed my home and
I lost everything so I'm going to have to build it or buy a used one,
(anybody have something used and affordable?) hopefully one well
thought out. I'm an artist and can sculpt, weld and fiberglass
something. Choosing the best system is step one. Sizing it, step two.
I'm looking forward to your advice and ideas.
Dave
