Hi,

Yes we have had many similar experiences, some of the interviews have appeared years
after they were done. It tends to be of little consequence but it is infuriating time
after time.

I find it helps to start an interview with a definition of a kWh. A good example is a
two slice toaster draws 1 kW of power, if you keep using it to make toast for an hour
you will have purchased 1 kWh of electricity from the network. This is referred to as
a unit of electricity, in NZ it would cost you about 18 cents to make this pile of
toast.

Only refer to "units" after this. Most people can relate to "units" as it appear on
their power bill. We must remember very few people outside this business have a good
grip on such things.

Subject: [microhydro] Getting journalists to understand the difference between
energy and power

I suspect that he really did mean kWh.

However, there is a much bigger issue. We have an uphill battle trying to
inform and educate journalists who write about energy matters without having a
clue about the difference between kW and kWh. Moreover if you are interviewed
on renewable energy matters by a magazine or newspaper journalist, as I have
been many times, they generally refuse to let you read their draft article,
claiming that you are trying to exercise censorship. I have been told this even
when I said that I just wanted to make sure that they got their facts right
and that they used the right terms to describe energy and power. Two of the
articles (Los Angeles Times and San Francisco Chronicle) were sufficiently
embarrassing to me (due to mistakes made by the reporters) that I stopped giving
  interviews.

Has anyone else in this group had a similar problem with the media?
