Dear Wim and Samuel:
Who knows a lot about picohydro propeller turbines and cheap construction from PVC
tubes and fittings, used near Orinoco river in Villavicencio, Colombia, is the
mechanical engineer Mauricio Gnecco. If Sam can contact Mauricio, a great friend and
member of HIDRORED, "The Latinamerica Network for Microhydropower Harnessing", who is
in love with picohydro, may be possible know very good hints and ideas for that.
Regards,
Carlos E. Bonifetti

Subject: Help in designing Propeller turbine
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi
I am a student from Papua New Guinea, and am currently working on a
small scale model of a propeller turbine.
So far, after much reading and surfing the net, I have not been able
to accumulate enough data for my design. The following is data I
have been able to obtain so far:
Head: 2.5m; Flow rate: 5L/s ; theoretical power output: 123
W;Specific speed:168
Runner diameter: 6cm Speed of Rotation: N=1300rpm.
Pitch angle; 12, this was from a formula used for fans.
The following are my own assumptions: hub to tip ratio: 0.2
Number of blades: 4
At the moment I am thinking of just making a jig to twist the baldes
at an angle of 45. However I have read that the angle of twist can
be calculated, as there is no guide vane, the flow is axial, and
hence I would specifically like some information regarding the
construction of velocity triangles and also some of the losses which
will be incurred. I am particularly interested in the turbine design
(propeller turbine). The turbine only needs to produce
approximately 6W, this will be generaeted by a dynamo attached to it.
The model is to demonstrate the principles of hydropower to students
in high school.
Your cooperation in this matter is very highly appreciated.
Samuel SAM
