Dear Dave
In a few days I will do my first experiences with the
screw, i'll met it in service. since my first post
here in this forum, a lot of time went by. this,
because i do all the work by myself in the spare time.
but this is not the topic.
i choosed this machine because it was the most
advantageous machine for my site conditions.
the cost were 2/3 of a kaplan with fixed vanes. if i
had choosen the model with concrete bed it would be
half the price of what i have now. i choosed the model
with the steel bed because i will still have the
possibility to adjust the height of in- and outlet.
but this i just for my privat r&d, not technicaly
needed.
one advantage is the ability to let pass al kind of
debris, the trash rake bar distance is the minimal
distance wich is given by government. this will help
me to save maintenance efforts during service.
the screw efficiency over all is very good. the peak
is 84%, droping to about 78% at 1/5 flow. mainly,
normal turbines have a higher peak efficiency, but in
fact, the only thing which count is the amount of
electricity produced during the year and how much work
it took you to keep the machine running. this lead me
to choose the screw.
the risk of injure fish is very very small, the
manufacturer has a study about this issue. the mashine
is the most fishfriendly desgin i have seen. the
government appriciated this and pushed me to choose
this mashine
this mashine seems to be the choice for your site.
specs of my site: 1.15m @ 900 l/s
with best regards
thomas
