Fellow microhydro and renewable energy supporters,
This morning (Saturday, Oct. 9, I just got around to taking action regarding Hakans mayday alert... I called the first congressman on the list, Duncan Hunter. I was really taken aback when congressman Hunter answered the phone himself! On a Saturday morning at 7:30 am I was certain I would be speaking to an answering machine and my message would only be a statistic presented to Mr. Hunter. When I explained my reason for the call and emphasized the critical nature of renewable energy for the survival of the country (and the World too, I might have added) and the the impact of John Warner's amendment, Mr. Hunter said simply that this amendment "was not a part of the bill we are considering." I responded with something like, " are you saying that we don't have to worry that the development of wind projects will be jeopardized for now?" He replied, "not now or forever." While I have a certain skepticism when listening to legislators reassuring words, this was none-the-less encouraging. I would ask that those of you who have thought to act on this issue might proceed with some tactfulness, or better yet, some research to make sure that Mr. Warner's amendment doesn't just pop up somewhere else to foil whatever democracy yet remains in this government.
