Hi,
Dec2004 Eureka magazine has an article about underwater thrusters.
The propellor has a ring attached with magnets and is sealed. On the
outside is a set of coils. In the center is just a bearing. TSL
Technology. They have a 50mm and 70mm unit available and 300mm in
design. It seems likely this would make a good brushless generator.
Tested to 750m.
The beauty of this design is that there are no seals or shafts.
I think miniature air fans have been available like this for a while,
but the power is a few watts only.

They are designed as motors for 28V. It doesn't say how many phases.
www.eurekamagazine.co.uk click reference library motors in the search
box.

I wonder if you could make a turbine with magnets to fit inside an
old induction motor stator? Integrating the turbine and generator
seems an obvious step which nobody seems to be doing.

Duncan Irvine.
