I own two hydroelectric dams in Maine. Beeuwkes, you need to
continue your efforts to have hydroelectric generation at your dam.
I have taken Central Maine Power Company to task several times
concerning Net Energy Billing and won everytime. Central Maine
Power Company even took me to FERC in Washington D.C. concerning my
second dam that was selling power instead of Net Billing and I won
there too. (What an experience that was.)

Information on all of these cases is available on the Internet. Do
a google search with my name (John Bertl)and FERC or my name and
Maine PUC and you should be able to download days of reading. You
could also do a search on Hydrotricity - the name I use.

Currently I am appealing a Maine PUC ruling to the Maine Supreme
Court. I am docket 2005-50 and my brief is due March 17. Wish me
luck. I have done everything without hiring a lawyer. I would be
glad to help or show you how to fight the system when they are wrong.

Maine's Public Advocate is on hydro's side along with several
members of Maine's Utility Committee in the legislature - mainly Ken
Fletcher. Ken is like you and lives on a reservoir where the dam
owners want to remove the dam. You need to get known to the members
of the Utility Committee.

As you have found, most of Maine's state employees who are in
positions where they can enfluence hydros are "watermelons" and
don't support hydros but do support dam removal.

You also might be interested in "LR 739 An Act Regarding Net Energy
Billing" that I have put into the legislative process this session.
It will allow any hydro to be net billed with any property as long
at they are each in the same customer name and are each in the same
utility's territory. This way you could be living in Portland, buy
a dam in Eustis and use it to pay for your electricity for your home
and your business. If I can get it to be passed and become law,
maybe then we can bring some of the many abandond dams in the State
Of Maine, back on line.

For those of you who think they know me but not by the ID of
Hydrotricity - you are correct. I am jbertl and waterwheels. I
still receive microhydro post to each of those E-mail address but
Yahoo no longer lets me reply or post my own message. This has been
the case for over a year now. Yahoo did not respond to my request
for help, therefore, I rejoined again. Not a month went by that I
did not want to post a reply but couldn't. Now I can and you should
be seeing more posts.
