I always suspected that this is a reason given by those who don't want more dams to interfere with their kayaking or canoeing. They don't want old dams either, and lobby to have them removed. Note the "could be" in the complaint. Hydro dams also have so much concentrated mass that they "could" attract meteors, possibly causing a terrible loss of life, especially little children and babies (who couldn't run away as fast [we presume]).

There may be a short term and minor spike in the CO2, but I imagine it's nothing compared to the slash and burn clear cutting going on in South America and other third world areas for other reasons besides hydro dams.
