Joseph, The PNG University of Technology in Lae has a centre called the Appropriate Technology and Community Development Institute (ATCDI) and there are people in the Institute who have been involved in micro-hydro training and work in Papua New Guinea. The institute has a good information centre with books and other reference materials on micro-hydro. Mr Garaiyo Gafiye is one person from ATCDI that you can contact.
I have also been involved in micro-hydro research and development work and you can always come to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the PNG University of Technolgy in Lae and talk to me. I have built a small hydro generating model using a cross-flow turbine and this is used as a teaching aid to explain principles in hydro power generation, turbine design as well as other aspects such as manufacturing, material selection and costs. At the present time, I am concluding a feasibility study for a small micro-hydro scheme in the Chimbu Province. If you are interested in practical studies, design and costings please do not hesitate to contact me.
