THAT'S what you should be looking at. Forget the flat river. Too many headaches for not enough power. How much head (vertical drop)from the spring to a turbine location? And how much flow? Also linear distance from spring to turbine will help us to recommend a pipe diameter. If you have substantial head (and if you call it a "mountain" it sounds like you may) you will be surprised how little water you'll need to make a respectable amount of power.
