Saturday, December 19, 2009 Our annual Mohonk Lake/Ashokan Reservoir (Ulster County) Audubon Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is scheduled for Saturday, December 19th. Participants will canvas their assigned areas from dawn to dusk, rain or shine, with some field parties devoting a few pre-dawn hours to search for nocturnal owls. Following the field survey, participants have the option of attending a post-count compilation gathering, where we tally the day's totals and exchange stories from the field.
The Mohonk Lake/Ashokan Reservoir (NYML) count circle is centered on Ulster County Community College in Stone Ridge. Participants will be assigned to a field party to census one of nine sectors within the 15-mile diameter count circle, devoting most of their daylight hours to conducting the count. Feeder watchers within the count circle can contribute their observations without the necessity of joining a field party. If you are interested in joining one of the field teams, or contributing your feeder observations, please contact me as soon as possible at [email protected]. Advance notice facilitates coordination of our effort and effective use of participants to maximize our coverage, ultimately enhancing the quality of our results. Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions, or for additional information. Steve M.
