The Bearded Tyrants( Mark DeDea, Peter Schoenberger, and Glenn Nystrup)made a big day of Ulster County on Saturday the 16th. We spent 17.5 hours birding the county to raise money for The Esopus Creek Conservancy. We had a day that we won't soon forget. It started with a flat tire and a dead mouse somewhere inside our car. But that didn't stop us from finding a whopping 139 species. Some of our highlights include: 24 species of warblers, including Cape May, Wilson's, and Mourning. Surf Scoter,Ruffed Grouse, Black-crowned Night-heron, Merlin, Sora, Semipalmated Plover, Whip-poor-will, Red-headed Woodpecker, Olive- sided Flycatcher, Alder Flycatcher, White-crowned Sparrow, and Lincoln's Sparrow. On a personal note, I was amazed when the day was over, that we had found Mourning Warbler, Black-crowned Night-heron, and Red-headed Woodpecker all in my yard! That brings that list up to 161 species. loving it all! Peter
