In early May, my father(Ken McDermott) and I had a Blue-winged with the same
yellow wing bars as the one you saw. As the article suggests, we also expected
a back cross of some kind. Perhaps a Brewsters- Blue-winged then that
offspring with a Blue-winged or something of that nature. Whatever the case,
still a fun and pretty bird to see.

Good Birding,

 Curt McDermott

Subject: [MidHudsonBirds] Hybrid Blue-Winged Warbler (In Response to Previous
Posts)

All this talk about this unique yellow wing bar got me to research similar
sightings. I found a 2008 article with a few photos of a 'yellow bar
blue-winged'. I was going to send by email, but I thought a few others might be
interested in the article:

http://naturalnotes3.wordpress.com/2008/05/08/blue-winged-golden-winged-warbler-hybrid/

The photos show most of the attributes of a blue winged warbler with the
exception of the wing bars. Is this similar to what you saw? Sounds like an
great find either way! I would also love to here others thoughts about it as
well.
