Got a real late start at Vassar Farm today, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Didn't really have a standout sighting, but it was an all around decent day. I saw the following:
- Wood Duck (many juvenile ones at back ponds, at least 8 to 10) - Mallard (with the wood ducks, about 6 of them) - Wild Turkey - Green Heron (2) - American Kestrel - Killdeer - Mourning Dove - Belted Kingfisher - Red-Bellied Woodpecker - Downy Woodpecker - Northern Flicker - Blue Jay (3) - American Crow (2) - Tree Swallow (6) - Barn Swallow (8) - White-Breasted Nuthatch - Eastern Bluebird (4) - Wood Thrush (only heard) - American Robin (12) - Gray Catbird (5) - Northern Mockingbird - Brown Thrasher (Saw near community gardens) - European Starling (4) - Cedar Waxwing (5) - Blue-Winged Warbler (2) - Prairie Warbler - American Redstart - Common Yellowthroat (5) - Song Sparrow (10+) - Northern Cardinal - Rose-Breasted Grosbeak - Red-Winged Blackbird (8) - Common Grackle (2) - Brown-Headed Cowbird (2) - Baltimore Oriole (3) - American Goldfinch (9) - House Sparrow (2) If I have any standout photos, I'll be sure to post them. I wanted to also add that I was 10 feet away from Cooper's Hawk outside of my job today. I typically walk around my parking lot in the afternoon, when I walked right into a the hawk near the ground eating what I assume was a rock pigeon. He didn't fly off either! I had a front row seat and watched him tear into his meal.
