This evening at 7:30 I had the distinct pleasure of witnessing a nighthawk
migration heading due south over the west bank of the river. Just prior to
this there were hundreds of swallows - mostly Trees and Barns - all heading
due north at dusk. Not sure why they do this; either they are headed for a
roost site or perhaps they regroup and do a complete turnaround as they
migrate south at night ? And in case you were wondering, it was a true
nighthawk migration - of one. I can't recall ever seeing just one, but that
was it.
