Tom, No bull. All of your choices are correct. Another reason is when a tanker relieves another on a task, then it might take on all of the remaining spare fuel in the homebound tanker. I witnessed two RAF VC10s do this on a live QRA mission once. My greatest regret in aviation is that movie cameras didn't exist in their current form back then. Now that was a beautiful sight. Not all military aircraft have AAR capability. They could have but it depends if the purchaser specifies this. When they don't, then suddenly find out they might need it to fight a conflict 8,000 miles away, they then have to figure out a quick way to retrofit it ASAP. (eg RAF Nimrods during the Falklands war).RAF A330 Voyagers don't have a receiver capability but they could have. It's an option. (The RAF Tristars didn't either). RAF Voyagers also don't have a flying boom in the central location. At least not yet, to my knowledge, but could have. Simon -------- Original message --------From: Tom Ronell via Mifnet <mifnet@lists.mifnet.com> Date: 01/06/2025 19:09 (GMT+00:00) To: "F. Could also be training. Could also be that the receiver was running out of fuel, himself, and needed a boost to get home. Could also be that I am full of bull and none of the above explains this case. TR From: F. He got a photo with his huge telephoto lens, but it wasn’t until he further enlarged the image on his computer at home that he saw they were connected. To me they appear to be USAF Boeing Pegasus refueling aircraft, but why would one be refueling another? Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Quite a sight to see when one in out looking for a stray sandhill crane.
