My first job out of MIT was at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, CT starting in June 1967. Igor Sikorsky had an office about 150 ft. from where I sat in the systems analysis section. I did not have his book, so when I stopped in to meet him one day, he autographed a photo for me. In 1969 I bought the just-released book by Frank J. Delear, Igor Sikorsky: His Three Careers in Aviation, which got me up-to-speed on all of his accomplishments. During my 2.5 years at Sikorsky I got to ride in an S-61 Navy version that flew out over Long Island Sound and dropped sono-buoys, and I witnessed a Skycrane being assembled. I also got a tour of the helipad atop the Pan Am building in NYC. It was an interesting place for a young engineer, but I found it too bureaucratic and DoD-dependent to make it a career choice
