| To be clear, this is NOT related to the GTF engines that power the A320 and A220 and which were the subject of recalls for inspections resulting from contaminated powder metal used to fabricate engine discs. Rather, there is a shortage of 112-inch PW4000 engines that power the 777. That engine was built only for the first gen 777, not the second which are exclusively GE-powered. I think United is still operating their initial fleet of 777s which are nearing an average age of 30 years. Generally speaking, the PW4000 is a venerable brand.
