This morning AA 1853 DCA-LAS was delayed from its normal departure
time of 0700 to 0845.
A few minutes before 0500 AA 1853 dropped into open time. At 0500 my
phone alerted me to an open trip to depart at 0700, which means show
time at DCA would be 0600. Before 0605 I had entered a ballot in the
computer to fly this leg to LAS and DH back to DCA the next day.
Additionally I texted crew scheduling and told them that I live 15
minutes from DCA and the flight would leave on time if I were to get
it. If there had been reserves to cover the trip it would have been
filled in a couple of minutes, but it was still languishing in open
time past 0515. Obviously there were no reserves to cover it at the
scheduled time.
It would have cost AA some money to give it to me. AA would have paid
me at time and a half for two days. The 10.5 hour trip would have paid
me 15.45 hours. More minutes pass and the trip is still open. At
around 0645 the flight has been delayed until 0845 so that crew
scheduling could have a reserve CA cover it.
I don't want to hear another word about "Right Start" flights or on
time departures again.
