Note - i love and respect Ethiopia. It's just that $12 billion is a big chunk

Ethiopian Airlines, largely left alone by its various autocratic governments,
is now the largest airline in Africa bar none, with mini-hubs in a few African
cities other than Addis Ababa (thereby breaking down some of the African
resistance to liberalization). ADD is getting very congested - when I travelled
from Toronto to Entebbe a few years ago, I did not even enter the terminal, was
bussed directly from one aircraft to another! Plus it is "hot and high" - the
new airport is further out of town but quite a bit lower. There are political
issues regarding its location, but my long time friend Semret Medhane, a former
CEO of ET, was invited to the launch ceremony last week and is all gung ho.
