To ease data entry load and improve data integrity, Nuru International has a
need to import an excel spreadsheet file into Mifos capturing basic details of
the transaction (date, receipt id, etc.)
Not sure if this could easily be met by extending the business logic of
existing plugins and APIs.
Below is the background and need and attached are the full requirements and
details of the spreadsheet to be imported:
Background and Need:
Nuru issues a receipt with a unique serial number for every financial
transaction. Physical receipts are an important part of Nuru's cash control
process, since many cash transactions take place in informal rural locations.
Carbon copies of all receipts, along with cash from transactions, are delivered
daily to the Nuru office by field officers. A cashier reconciles the receipts
summary with cash received, and an office clerk enters data from receipts into
a daily transaction journal in Excel. This Excel journal is then reviewed by a
manager before posting daily transactions to Mifos MIS.
Initially, Mifos MIS was intended to replace the process of recording
transactions in the Excel journal. The detailed transactions report generated
in the BI reporting suite would then be used by managers to review daily
activity. However, adoption of this new process has proved challenging. Office
staff reports that QA and data manipulation is much easier in an Excel format.
Although we are continuing to focus staff training on the use and value of
incorporating MIS technology into our information system processes, a
transaction import function would greatly help adoption and utility of Mifos
MIS in Nuru operations.
