Soham, You can start your discussion regarding bandwidth usage on this thread. I've forwarded over this thread that Ryan started on mifos-functional back in September. (this time I properly copied the list :) - last time I had the wrong address)
He is going to try to account for the bandwidth usage at ENDA - concurrent users and bandwidth throughput, max and min, throughout a day. Also, amount of data transferred up and down, broke down by hour/day/week taken over a month or so, etc. Ed ------ Forwarded Message From: Aliya Walji <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Reply-To: Mifos functional discussions <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Mon, 8 Sep 2008 15:38:21 -0400 To: Mifos functional discussions <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [Mifos-functional] Common Bandwidth Usage for Mifos I do have some information from GK about their connectivity but unfortunately do not have information about their connectivity speed at the server level. What I do have is server bandwidth usage information which may prove useful as you do your planning. The information is slightly out of date since it is from March and they are growing quite rapidly but it is a good baseline. In terms of bandwidth usage, GK is using 25GB of data per month at the server level. Of course, there is a corresponding 25GB of data usage per month allocated across their branches also. At the time GK gave me this data, they were 44 branches and had 1 user per branch, all operating concurrently and probably another handful of users at the head office using Mifos on a regular basis. I don't have any more detailed information from GK other than that but I will try to get more information when I next speak with them. It will be a dedicated 2 Mb down/1 Mb up ADSL connection. Obviously as its a web server, the upstream is more important in this situation and we're a little concerned that 1 mb may not be enough. If you look at http://is.gd/1ZUL you can see some of the infrastructure setup for ENDA. They have over 400 users and are potentially expecting 120 concurrent users at once. I'm wondering if anyone has some experience with their connection requirements for Mifos out there, the server, not clients? Maybe Grameen Koota? I'm looking for some details like: * How many total users on the system? * What's your daily trend for concurrent users? (aka, from 8 to 5, how many users to you have using it per hour?) * What's your average load rate over the day, aka, average hits per sec, per hour? (Even with 100 users using the system, there may only be 15 hits per sec on the webserver) * Daily traffic trend in bandwidth? (How much up, how much down, per hour?) I realize each MFI will of their own processes and usage patterns, but should give us some idea in planning whether we want to go forward with this service or look seriously at other options (as the MFI grows, I think that will become a priority eventually) Thanks, Ryan Ryan Whitney Mifos Technical Program Manager [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mifos - Technology that Empowers Microfinance (www.mifos.org) ________________________________________ ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK & win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100&url=/ ------ End of Forwarded Message
