Hello Deependra,

Glad to hear you're interested in Mifos and welcome to the community.

The short answer to your question, unfortunately, is no, you probably would
not be able to upgrade to a new version of MIFOS smoothly. It would require
doing a code merge which could end up being very painful and taking a long
time (if not be near impossible).

That said, I would suggest doing the following

First, share the gaps you found with the community. We have a lot of MFI's
here with a lot of varied products, processes and experiences and what
sometimes may appear to be a gap may not be. That way we can help you
identify possible solutions to your gaps that may not require customizing
Mifos, making for an easier adaption.

If after doing a review of your gaps you will still require customizing
Mifos, I would recommend getting involved with the Mifos developer list and
look at what it takes to become a possible contributor. That way you can
benefit from the whole community while you undertake the customization or
possibly find some partners to work with. In addition, this would ensure
that upgrading Mifos in the future would happen smoothly.

Cheers!
