Hi all,
Not sure about anyone else but I don¹t use windows as my primary platform
and have been frustrated that I have to boot into windows to build/edit
reports. So with a little bit of tenacity I was able to get it to work on
my machine today. For Linux user¹s, if you go to
http://archive.eclipse.org/birt/downloads/build.php?build=R-R1-2_1_2-2007022
71000 you can find a full download of eclipse that should work for your
development, although this will work for you as well (and Windows too, just
make sure you download for your platform where indicated)
First, download these files
1. Platform Dependant Download Webtools Platform; All in One -
http://archive.eclipse.org/webtools/downloads/drops/R1.5/R-1.5.5-20070829144
2/
2. Download DTP 0.9.1 -
http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/datatools/downloads/0.9.
1/dtp-sdk_0.9.1.zip
3. Download BIRT -
http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/birt/downloads/drops/R-R
1-2_1_2-200702271000/birt-report-framework-2.1.2.zip
Then follow these steps
1. Expand the WTP. This will become your primary eclipse app to run
2. Expand the DTP and copy the files in the features and plugins folder to
their respective folders from the expanded WTP
3. Expand BIRT and copy the files in the features and plugins folder to
their respective folders from the expanded WTP. Note Some of those files
will already exist, so go ahead and skip moving them.
Now start Eclipse, create a new project for report design and then create a
new report.
Viola. Should work just like using the BIRT RCP Report Designer**
One word of warning. I do not recommend upgrading this instance of eclipse
as it could upgrade BIRT to a later version. Reports made with versions
after 2.1.2 will not work in Mifos. If you do other development with
Eclipse, I recommend creating this as a separate instance.
Ryan
** in theory, we¹ll see after I use it for awhile
