Some questions around how a user brings up the list of all possible
options for the field.

That is the use case we're outlining in the 3rd scenario, "User
answering question - Enter tag name" this is where the user might not
know what the list of options are for that question.

They would then enter in the name of the tag category (i.e. Animal
Purchase) and then a smart select list of all the options in that
category would appear.

In the example where there's a loan purpose and then multiple categories
beneath that - what would occur when a user entered in "Loan Purpose"?
In this case, from the users perspective if they didn't know animal
purchase was a category of Loan Purpose - where would they start to list
out options? Would entering in "Loan Purpose" list out all categories
and options within those categories?

Hi all!

We are currently implementing creating question groups that can be
assigned to different workflows in Mifos. It is similar but an
improvement to what is currently in Mifos for custom fields and surveys.

One feature we are adding is the ability to create questions with answer
choices that can be tagged with different labels. Then, when a user is
answering the question, there is a way for them to smart select the
option they want to choose. This is to meet the need of having
cascading options possible for questions.

One example is selecting from a long list of loan purposes that are
usually categorized. In this example, you may have many different loan
purpose options for each category - such as in Animal Purchase category,
there might be different types like Goat Purchase, Cow Purchase, etc.
We are adding the ability in Mifos to create a question for loan purpose
- and then when setting possible options for answers, you will be able
to tag each of the options (Goat Purchase, Cow Purchase, etc) with a
category like "Animal Purchase".

Then when the question is asked during loan creation, and the Mifos user
chooses the Loan Purpose, they can either start typing Goat or Animal,
and options that match would populate. Please see the following mockups
- http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5083125/Smart%20Select.ppt

This will also meet the need of reporting - for example, you will be
able to filter on all answers that were tagged with 'Animal Purchase' if
you wanted to find all loans with that purpose.

Wanted to let everyone know of this new enhancement in case anyone has
any concerns around this would work.

Thanks!

Kay

Hi All,

As discussed yesterday, please find attached the screenshots for
visualizing the way to implement cascading using smart select option.

Please run the slide show to clearly view the images in each slide.

Slide 1 refers to how an admin can setup multi select options with tags.
Tags can be used to represent the association of a given choice with a
category.

Slide 2 and 3 refer to how a user would be able to select a particular
choice by either typing first few letters of the choice, or as in slide
3 enter a few letters of the associated tag which is easier to remember.

I have used the example where the user knows that the loan purpose was
an animal purchase, or goat purchase to be more specific.
