Thanks so much Ryan,
Sorry, i missed, am using mysql 5.1.48
You have pointed out some important ideas that i think are a preliquisite for
mifos, my installation was:
Apache and mifos are under a folder called Mifos Install i.e.
C:\Mifos Install
I have installed JRE instead of JDK but am aware both can allow
mifos to operate so long as its not for developing mifos
while configuring mysql, i didnt set any user or password but
instead used root with no password
i have no idea what local.properties and
applicationConfiguration.custom.properties files are.
About the guide, i followed instructions at
http://www.mifos.org/knowledge/install-guide , printed a copy to repeat
installation for several times.
pls guide me on how to set up the files u mentioned and will having no password
affect my settings for mifos.
regards

Patric,
Mysql Version 5.0.43 is still the wrong version. You need to upgrade to Mysql
5.1.x.
I personally don’t believe the Mifos installation is difficult, but it is an
enterprise application and does expect that users are familiar with the setup
and installation of databases and web applications. In that case it can prove
to be difficult to people unfamiliar with this type of software. I would
recommend reading some tutorials or introduction documents on MySQL and Tomcat
on the web, that might help.
Also, as we noted in our first e-mails to the log you posted, it looks like
there was an issue with Mifos being able to connect to your MySQL instance.
That would most likely indicate that there may be an issue with the setup of
the database in Mifos or that your connection settings in local.properties is
wrong. It could also indicate that your system has not been setup to look for
the mifos configuration files in the right place.
Here would be my first set of questions
Where did you place the local.properties and
applicationConfiguration.custom.properties files?
Did you point to the correct location in your environment variables (If you
don’t know what I mean, do some research for your selected OS)
Did you install mifos into a database named ‘mifos’, with the user ‘mifos’ and
a password of ‘mifos’ (this is generally the default that Mifos tries to
access)?
If you changed any of those settings, are they set correctly in the
local.properties file?
If you are installing on Windows, are you using this guide? -
http://www.mifos.org/knowledge/install-guide
Best,
Ryan

i have completely changed everything to conform with the requirements i.e. am
now using mysql version 5.0.43. but still the same error recurs. is it because
am using mifos version 1.5 that am getting everything wrong or mifos
installation is always complicated like this? I admire the software but the
installation part is very complicated. is there any other method of using this
mifos?

And one more thing.
You are using mysql version 5.0.51b while it is recommended that Mifos
1.5 should be used with MySQL 5.1.x.
Cheers,
Udai
