Hello Community,

Following up on the last email about passing on more responsibilities to
volunteers in the community we would like to begin to identify and organize
volunteers to assist with ongoing translation and localization of Mifos.

http://translatewiki.net/wiki/Translating:Mifos

All of our translations are administered and maintained by
translatewiki.netand their community who provide a powerful online
tool and community of
translators to crowdsource translations and ensure they're synced up with
our git repository.

Mifos is used in four languages that are fully translated and maintained -
Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Chinese. Translations are well under way
for more than a half dozen other languages including Tagalog, Khmer, and
Bengali.

Ideally we'd like to have one to two active translators per language to
ensure that we can keep each language fully translated for each release.

We're seeking volunteers to help out as:

*Translators*: People with fluency in a given language and proficiency in
business/microfinance domain-specific vocabularies are needed to translate
both the Mifos User Interface and our documentation and user manuals. Of
highest priority is maintaining existing UI translations and translating
Mifos UI into new languages -
http://translatewiki.net/wiki/Translating:Mifos/stats

Existing languages: Maintaining and cleaning up existing translations for
Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Chinese.

New languages: Help complete in-progress translations currently beyond 60%
for Khmer, Tagalog, and Hungarian and languages like Bengali and Arabic that
are in progress but below 25%.

To date most of our volunteer translators have come from beyond the Mifos
community itself, including individuals like Julie Wilchins and through
TranslateWiki.net (Béria Lima) and Bankers without Borders (Jesus, Ida,
etc.). We'd like to have more translation assistance from users and
implementers in the community itself (like Miguel's team providing the
Portuguese translation for the Mozambique market).

*Maintainers*: Maintainers would help to ensure a smooth bridge with the
Translatewiki.net community by ensuring messages are properly documented so
translators know what they're translating, and timely commits of both
incoming and outgoing changes to the git repository. These maintainers will
also help to seek out improvements to internationalization in Mifos to to
extend localization beyond just language (currency, calendar, etc.) and
allow for greater flexibility (i.e. using Mifos in multiple
languages). Familiar
faces who've helped out on this in the past include Jasmine Sandhu, Adam
Monsen, and Stanley Kwok.

Email the list if you'd like to assist with internationalization and
translation of Mifos moving forward.

Thanks,

Ed Cable

All of the data generated in your IT infrastructure is seriously valuable.
Why? It contains a definitive record of application performance, security
threats, fraudulent activity, and more. Splunk takes this data and makes
sense of it. IT sense. And common sense.
