I used the one of the first Wi-Spy 2.4 units. It is like a spectrum analyzer using the laptop software and actually didn't do bad. I just needed more functionality and rather than spend the money on the more expensive Wi-Spy I decided to go a bit more in price and got the Spectran. So the Wi-Spy doesn't care what is emitting the signal(s), it shows it. You can find it here and see the screen shots: http://www.metageek.net/

Do these units just give you 2.4 Range signal and noise for frequencies or does it only give you 2.4 Channel utilization? Would be great if Mikrotik would just to a freq range scan and give it to you on a chart. Not a site
survey of channels.

I have been using the Wi-Spy version 2 with no issue. I have put on an
external antenna and works like a charm. I don't need the 5 gig stuff or I would get it especially for the price. I have ran it right beside the
Cognio analyzer and it matched perfectly.

Subject: [Mikrotik] spectrum analyzer

This is basically an fyi.

Some time back I purchased a Metageek Wi-Spy 2.4 "spectrum analyzer".
It was cheap and when in fairly close range, worked ok. Since that time
I have purchased something else which I will get to in a moment.
Today I received an email from Metageek that they had come out with the
Wi-Spy DBx which is 2.4 and 5 gig. Well the cost is $799. I would say,
don't get it if you are looking for a spectrum analyzer. Instead, take a
look at the Spectran products at www.electrosmog.com .

I purchased the HF-6060 and it was around $1300 US dollars. Works very
well, comes with a rubber duck, and a directional antenna. You can also
get an adapter and connect it to an external antenna. Run the laptop
software and connect to it and get great info. Well worth the extra
money rather than the Wi-Spy DBx. And much cheaper than the bench
spectrum analyzers.

Thought I would pass that along.
