It's because ether MT or StarOS has written code to specifically not talk to the other. I have not been able to determine who the offending party is but if I figure out who, I will probably not buy any more equipment from them. That kind of games do not belong in this business. Not when they have much bigger problems to address.

If anyone knows more about who the offending party is, I would love to hear it. When I asked UBNT about it, the quiet was absolute. When I asked StarOS about it, there was some snippy remark. So no more StarOS

Weird one..
I am trying to get an RB112 with an atheros AR5213 card running 2.9.48
in it to associate to a StarOS AP running 10mhz channels. It doesn't
appear to see the StarOS unit at all. This is weird, as all of the other CPE types that I have tried do not
have problems associating to this AP. My tech has noticed that this
problem also applies to 5ghz as well as 2.4ghz. Going to be a problem
for me, as I am converting all of my APs to 10mhz channels.
I am upgrading to 3.30 to see if that helps. Matt Larsen
