I'll throw in 2 more cents worth.  The mingwex was started by
mingw.org and meant to contain code maintained by us that extended
(the ex part) msvcrt to the extent that some of the functions provided
by msvcrt could be overridden by libmingwex.  Therefore by default it
was never meant to be used by MSVC but you are more than welcome to
create a differently named library that is more copacetic to MSVC.
