Yes, this is true; the line between what extra functions we provide and don't provide is blurry, and whenever we change what we provide, there's a risk of breaking user code. In this case, it's kinda reasonable that we provide it (as we did provide other similar functions before), but since it is a change from how things are before, it's still possibly disruptive.
So overall, it's a good argument against randomly adding other new functions - but for this one, let's see how we can sort it out...
