As for an easier way: http://www.smartvue.com/
(disclaimer: The folks doing the product management on the new
smartvue wireless systems are friends of mine and I was asked to look
over their design specs but that's how I know it exists.)

I was unable to find specs/docs/manuals for the DLink DCS-900W from
the vendor site. If you've got links, please post them. Without
knowing what the hardware can do, it's impossible to make useful
suggestions.
