speed of mac mini

Hello list,

i think of buying a mac mini, but i don't know if a mac mini is fast 
enough. So i ask you: does anyone use an mac mini with gnome/kde or so? 
At the moment i have an dual-P3 and he's fast enough.

Any coments, suggestions?
