You can do whatever you want.  For example, here is a diff which will
compile your system without the built-in ls.

In the end, you can do whatever makes you happy.  But if it makes you
happy, and then something goes wrong and following that you submit a
bug report for your self-modified system, you can expect that people
will remember you and flame you to death.

Basically: Your changes -> your problem.

If you try to make your problem our problem, don't be surprised if
people make it very clear that you are the problem.  Your reputation
will be soiled.
