Before you install X/KDE, etc., do a vanilla OpenBSD install and read FAQ 13 "multimedia" then test sound from the commandline. >From past experience VLC's docs were way behind implementation (on top of being gigantic) so for debugging it may be the worst application unless you work from source code. -- p
