Thanks. According to matthieu@, the hardcoded paths to /usr/sbin/openssl 
should not be used if openssl is found by the test above:

AC_PATH_PROGS(MCOOKIE, [mcookie], [$MCOOKIE],
  [$PATH:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/lib:/usr/libexec:/usr/local/bin])

So this should work correctly already.
