Well scratch that -- on another patched machine, I removed the patches with syspatch -r and still have the assertion failure. So it's down to a hardware difference, or the fact that the working system was upgraded to 6.1 and the problem systems are clean installs. I'll try installing on another machine to rule out upgrade vs. clean. Allan
