Yes. It's the boot order in the BIOS, i.e., it tries PXE boot before
the HD (i.e., before the ">boot" prompt even shows up).

Me too.

Does it fail because I pressed the ESC key to abort the PXE boot
and the ">boot" prompt considers that keystroke as some kind of
input?
