but the fix has been mangled ...

suggest the following fix to disable the DRM which is causing CPU spikes
(no HDMI cable connected)

make sure to enable serial console in /etc/boot.conf  and in /etc/ttys

echo disable inteldrm >> /etc/bsd.re-config
config -e -c /etc/bsd.re-config -f /bsd
reboot

fixed my issue
